PALANI,
Hundreds of devotees today witnessed Surasamharam of four
asuras by Lord Sri Muthukumaraswamy on Giri Veedhis of Palani
hills.
At
the outset, special pujas and deeparadhanas were performed
to Lord Muthukumaraswamy at the hill temple.The utsavamurthy
was mounted on golden sapparam to receive holy lance from
his mother Parasakthi Marikozhundhu Amman.
Later,
special pujas were performed to his warriors led by the
army chief commander, Sri Veerabahu. All warriors and the
chief commander assembled before the Sri Padha Vinayagar
temple.
Armed
with lance, shield, bow and arrow and knife, Lord Muthukumarswamy
climbed down the steps from the hill temple and ascended
the golden peacock mount at Sri Padhavinayagar temple. Amid
chanting of holy hymns, Surasamharam commenced with religious
fervour.
First,
he fought with Tharakasuran and destroyed him on north Giri
Veedhi. Later, he was taken in a procession to east Giri
Veedhi for destroying Banugopan. After a stiff battle, he
killed Banugopan and left for south Giri Street. Singamuga
Asuran faced the lord. He fought with him and finally destroyed
him also. Later, a victorious Muthukumaraswamy proceeded
to west Giri Veedhi to face Surapadman, prime enemy of the
Lord. The lord beheaded Surapadman with his lance and completed
the Surasamharam.
